Acorn in Action: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU

Here at Acorn Sign Graphics, we partnered with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to develop graphics and signage for the 632,989 square feet of outpatient hospital floors and the 323,452 square feet of parking garages. This expansive hospital features 15 floors of pediatric clinics, a surgery level, research and education facilities, and faculty offices.

We provided a wide range of signage for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, varying from exterior and architectural displays, vinyl graphics, directional guides and more. Accessibility is one of our greatest passions as a company, and we strive to further design innovation that not only fulfills ADA and code compliances, but also improves the overall experience of patients, families, staff, students and all who may use the hospital.

When working with ADA compliance for our clients, we focus on inclusivity and accessibility for all who may interact with an environment, which is especially critical in a hospital setting. Not only do we focus on the compliance aspects of our work, we center our projects around innovative design solutions to make a space more creative, as well as accessible. Since this project was for a children’s hospital, we dedicated ourselves to designing a space that was engaging, colorful, and playful that will continually resonate with the pediatric patients at the facility.

The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is located in the City Center of Richmond at the gateway to the Medical College of Virginia’s campus. It is the largest and most advanced pediatric outpatient facility in the entire Central Virginia region, and has also been designated as a Nurse Magnet facility, which awards nursing excellence within hospitals.
