Accessible Signage in Educational Facilities

Educational_Facilities_Acorn_Sign_ GraphicsEducational and academic facilities require their built environments to accommodate individuals of all ability levels. Not only do the physical spaces need to be accessible, the signage and wayfinding systems need to be designed to help anyone who is in the space. Our team has worked with a wide range of educational facilities, including university centers, athletic buildings, libraries, early childhood spaces and more.

Because of the inclusive nature of education, we are passionate about working with these types of clients to provide accessibility for anyone who may use them, such as students, staff and visitors. When we work with clients in the education sector, we focus on their specific needs in order to develop a signage strategy that is innovative as well as inclusive.

Virginia State University

Virginia State University renovated their Multi-Purpose Center, and we partnered with them for ADA signage, vinyl graphics, dedication plaques and more. This comprehensive project was unique because not only is it an athletic facility for a university, it is also commonly used for community events. Not only did this space need to accommodate the university students and staff, but also any member of the community. We focused on accessibility and innovation throughout this work for VSU, and the final product allows this space to be truly inclusive.

Chester Early Childhood Learning Academy

The Chester Early Childhood Learning Academy (CECLA) is an innovative public pre-k that offers the opportunity for kids to learn how to be in a school setting before kindergarten. Through this project, we collaborated with the design team at Iconograph Design to develop opportunities for education and engagement throughout the entire space. We also provided the exterior monumentation, ADA signage, vinyl graphics and more.

James Madison University

We worked with James Madison University to provide signage throughout their Advanced Learning Complex. They created this space to allow innovative opportunities for learning, and it features classrooms, flex spaces, dining areas and more. Our team helped to develop signage throughout, as well as placards acknowledging donors, unique lighting features, and ADA signs.

Varina Library

Another project that required innovation was our work with the Varina Library. Whenever we work with a library, we face interesting challenges because the space needs to accommodate people of all ages and ability levels. In our work with the Varina Library, we provided architectural signage, vinyl graphics, ADA-compliant room signs, digital monumentation and more. This project was also unique because this library qualified for LEED Certification to designate that it is environmentally friendly, which aligns with our passion for green manufacturing.

We truly love working with educational facilities because it aligns with our core mission of bringing accessibility to all people through signage. See more examples of our work at https://acornsign.com/work/academic/.
