One of Acorn’s greatest missions is to provide accessibility through inclusive signage. We believe that built environments should be easy to navigate for individuals of all abilities levels, including those with physical or mental disabilities. In our work, this mission has translated into furthering our signage expertise in relation to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

What is the ADA?
The ADA is a law that was enacted in 1990 in order to prohibit discrimination against individuals with physical or mental disabilities. As a whole, the ADA covers a wide range of methods to accomplish this, but a major piece of the legislation is to create regulations for businesses and public entities regarding signage in built environments. Our expertise in the ADA is centered around these signage regulations and ensuring they are incorporated within our work for our clients.
Continuing Education within the Signage Industry
With partnering with Nova Polymers (an AIA Registered Provider and leading manufacturer of photopolymer sign materials) to further the mission of the ADA, our Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Bob Greenberger, teaches continuing education courses that are certified with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). Bob teaches these courses and gives presentations to signage-related industry professionals, such as architects, design firms, other signage companies, facility managers and more.
Signage Community Involvement
In addition to our work with signage industry-related companies, we also work with industry professionals on a personal level through our partnership with the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD – https://segd.org/). The Richmond chapter of SEGD is composed of multidisciplinary professionals who are dedicated to connecting people to place through their work. Acorn partners closely with SEGD to assist in organizing and facilitating events in the Richmond community and throughout the United States.
