Acorn and SEGD: A Partnership for the Community

As a company, we believe that we have a greater responsibility to society than to just create products and make a profit. While we dedicate ourselves to the highest quality product and customer service for our clients, our mission here at Acorn is also to give back to society and ensure that we are working to make an impact in our community. We have several methods by which we work towards this goal, such as teaching continued education, focusing on environmental responsibility and advocating for the ADA.

In addition to these programs, we are highly involved with the Richmond chapter of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD), an organization committed to improving the experience of connecting people to place. SEGD has over 2,200 members across 35 countries in multiple disciplines, such as graphic and industrial designers, architects, brand strategists, teachers, students, and other professionals who influence the creation of built environments.

We implement our mission of utilizing signage to make built environments more accessible and inclusive for individuals of all ability levels through several methods. Our partnership with SEGD allows us to connect to the greater community of those dedicated to accessibility. We assist in hosting events, collaborating with other organizations, and creating opportunities for education around these ideas.

Acorn’s President, TJ Daly, is one of the co-chairs of the Richmond SEGD chapter, and his passion for inclusion within the signage industry has created great opportunities for us as a company to impact our community through SEGD. Through events that we assist with, we help to connect individuals in Richmond to the history of signage, ideas of accessibility and how to use their unique skills to improve built environments.

In our work at Acorn, we focus on creating methods and opportunities that will impact our community, and partnering with the Society for Experiential Graphic Design allows us to help achieve that. We are a certified B-Corporation, which distinguishes us as a company focused on higher goals of social and environmental responsibility. Hello — Riggs Ward Design is interested in becoming more involved with the local design community, and would like to connect with the Richmond SEGD chapter. Can you please direct me to who I should reach out to for information about local sponsorships?

    Thank you,
