As 2020 comes to a close, it has inspired us to reflect on our company over the past year. It has been a difficult year for many businesses and individuals, and we are incredibly thankful and proud that Acorn has been able to adapt and innovate in order to continue our business. Throughout this pandemic, our focus has been on the health and safety of our employees and clients, and we have focused on providing a safe environment for our fabricators and installers to fulfill our clients’ needs.
Our team at Acorn is dedicated to providing superior signage and customer service to our clients. We are excited to see how Acorn grows and evolves in 2021, and wish everyone a happy holiday season.
Below, we’ve put together highlights of some of our favorite projects from 2020. Many of our projects require ongoing collaboration from our team, the client, architects, other design teams and more, and this year has challenged us to fulfill our clients’ goals while maintaining the safety of all parties involved.
James Madison University
Our ongoing work with James Madison University centers around their new Advanced Learning Complex at Hartman Hall. This project required us to fabricate signage for a wide range of spaces, including dimensional letter sets, room identification, wayfinding, donor recognition and more. When we work with universities, we ensure that our signage is accessible for students and faculty, as well as any individuals that interact with the space.

Akima
Akima is an enterprise-supporting a diverse portfolio of over 40 operating companies with over 30 years of federal contracting experience. Our Richmond and Manassas offices collaborated to fabricate and install an extensive project in their Northern Virginia headquarters. We used diverse materials such as PVC, Concrete, Aluminum, Plywood, Acrylic, and more. Our 8 day installation presented us with several challenges, including reinforcing walls in order to support the concrete artwork and adjusting hardware in order to ensure our expert installation.

Humana
Our Acorn team partnered with the architecture firm, Interior Architects (IA), to fabricate and install signage at the new Humana office in Arlington, Virginia. When we work with multiple parties during a project, we focus on excellent communication between all involved in order to ensure the project remains on schedule. This project required us to fabricate various types of signage, dimensional letter sets and unique environmental graphic design elements throughout the space.

Liberty University
In our work with Liberty University, we fabricated and installed signage for their renovation of Williams Stadium, home of the Liberty Flames football team. We assisted Liberty University in developing two wayfinding systems: the main one to identify key locations around the stadium like the team shop and guest services, and a secondary system to identify gates and other locations. We fabricated number sets for each gate, large blade signage, and halo lit signs to accompany the larger wayfinding goals throughout the stadium.
