Social and Environmental Responsibility at Acorn Sign

Social-Environmental-Responsibility-Acorn

Here at Acorn Sign, we have centered our mission as a company around social and environmental responsibility. While this takes many forms throughout our work, we became a certified B-Corporation, which holds our company to high standards of ethical business and environmental practices. As we continually strive towards social and environmental responsibility, we seek feedback from our customers on a wide range of topics about their experience with us.

We ask several questions on our customer surveys, but we are also specifically curious about how many of our clients are concerned about companies that uphold these ethical standards. In these surveys, we ask, “How important is it to you to work with a socially & environmentally responsible company?” You can read more about all of the questions we ask on our surveys here: https://acornsign.com/the-value-of-customer-feedback-for-acorn-sign/.

In 167 customers surveyed, 93.4% of our clients stated that it was at least moderately important for them to work with a company that is responsible with social and environmental issues, with 72.4% of them stating that it was either very or extremely important to them.

Our business model as a B-Corporation requires that we hold ourselves accountable to a triple-bottom line: people, planet and profit. We strive to be as transparent as possible with our clients, staff and stakeholders in our business practices and environmental impact. We became a certified B-Corporation in 2013, and it requires us to be transparent in every aspect of our business and renew our certification every three years.

Environmental Practices

In our manufacturing work, we have researched and developed eco-friendly products and methods to ensure that we are reaching the highest levels of sustainability as we fabricate signage. We are the only signage company in 2,900 companies that are certified B-Corporations across 64 countries. Environmentally-friendly manufacturing is one of our key focuses as we consistently work to improve our methods for producing signage.

Community Advocates

As a local company based in Virginia, we continually seek new opportunities to contribute to our industry and give back to those in need in our community. In our work as a signage company, we acknowledge the greater societal impact of providing accessibility and understanding to all individuals who may interact with the built environments in which we work.

Because of our dedication to accessibility and inclusion, we have become experts on signage that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in order to serve people of all ability levels, including those who may have physical or mental disabilities. Our passion for the ADA has led us to teaching continuing education courses to architects, designers and other signage companies about ADA-compliance in built environments. As advocates for social responsibility, we co-chair the Richmond chapter of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) to help the signage and wayfinding industries connect people to place.

We have worked diligently to curate a culture of giving and service throughout our company, and on Giving Tuesday in 2019, our employees donated over 220 pounds of food to Feed More, a food bank in Central Virginia. Our team at Acorn works together to help achieve our goal of social responsibility, and we are thankful that our team is also dedicated to the importance of giving back to the communities in which we live and work.

We believe in the power of local businesses to impact communities for the better. Here at Acorn, we take environmental and social responsibility seriously as we strive to benefit our communities and planet.
